Our Process

From the First Idea to the Finished Home.

You do not need to own land, have completed plans or know every detail before contacting Hawthorne Emory. Whether you are considering a major renovation, expanding an existing home or starting a custom home from the ground up, our process begins with understanding your vision and where you are today. We then help establish the property, plans, investment and construction path needed to move forward with confidence.

We Meet You Where the Project Begins.

Renovating, adding on or building from the ground up—the next step begins with understanding your vision.

DISCOVER

Initial Conversation

Understanding What You Want to Create

Every project begins with a conversation about your goals, priorities and long-term plans. You may already own the home you want to transform, have land ready for construction or only be beginning to consider where and what to build. We meet you at that starting point.

Key discussion points

This conversation helps us determine whether Hawthorne Emory is the right fit and identify the most practical next step.

EVALUATE

Property & Site Evaluation

Making Sure the Property Supports the Vision

The property influences nearly every aspect of a construction project. If you already own a home or building site, we evaluate its existing conditions, opportunities and potential limitations. If you have not yet purchased land, we can help you understand what to consider before committing to a property. When appropriate, we can review potential building sites for factors that may affect design, construction and overall investment.

Technical considerations

Evaluating these conditions early can help prevent the purchase of land that does not reasonably support your plans or budget.

ALIGN

Preliminary Assessment

Establishing Direction and Feasibility

Once we understand the vision and property conditions, we provide preliminary guidance regarding the project’s likely direction and investment range. For a renovation or addition, this assessment considers the existing structure and anticipated changes. For a custom home, it considers the desired size, architectural direction, building site and expected level of finish.

Note

This is not a formal construction proposal. It is an early feasibility assessment intended to determine whether the project, property and investment are reasonably aligned before detailed design begins.

DESIGN

Design & Preconstruction

Turning the Vision Into a Buildable Plan

The design and preconstruction phase develops the information required to define, price and ultimately construct the project.

Scope items

Retainer

A design or preconstruction retainer is required for this phase. The services and fee are established according to the project's size and complexity. The purpose is to resolve critical decisions before construction begins, when adjustments can be made more efficiently and with less expense.

DEFINE

Detailed Proposal

Defining the Scope and Investment

Once the design and specifications have been sufficiently developed, Hawthorne Emory prepares a detailed construction proposal. The proposal outlines the planned scope, major specifications, allowances and overall project investment. We review it with you, answer questions and make any necessary adjustments before entering into a construction agreement. This provides a clearer and more dependable foundation than attempting to price an undefined idea.

BUILD

Construction

Bringing the Home to Life

Before construction begins, we coordinate permitting, scheduling, material procurement and site preparation. Hawthorne Emory then manages the complete build, coordinates the required trades and maintains communication regarding progress, upcoming decisions and conditions that require attention. Whether we are transforming an existing home or beginning with an undeveloped property, our role is to protect the overall vision while managing the many details required to complete it successfully.

Why the Process Matters.

Better Decisions Earlier

The right information at the right time leads to better outcomes.

Realistic Project Direction

We align goals, budget and design for a clear path forward.

One Point of Accountability

One team responsible for the details from start to finish.

Clear Communication From Start to Finish.

Clear communication is essential throughout design and construction. We keep you informed about progress, scheduling and decisions that may affect the work. When questions or unforeseen conditions arise, we explain the issue, review the available options and document any resulting changes before proceeding.

The goal is clarity before construction and accountability throughout it.

A Home Built With Purpose.

As construction approaches completion, we review the work, address remaining items and confirm that the finished home reflects the agreed plans and scope. Our goal is to provide experienced leadership from the earliest idea through the final details—regardless of where your project begins. Before we hand over the keys, we walk through every detail to ensure your home is complete and ready for the life ahead.

You Do Not Need to Have Everything Figured Out.

Tell us where you are in the process, and we will help identify the next step.
